Push yourself mentally and physically by learning to lead climb in New Zealand’s premier, and most scenic, sport climbing venue.
This course teaches the essentials for leading bolted sport routes. It is also a must do for people who have learnt from a friend, but want to check they are using good and safe techniques.

Don’t worry if you don’t have any equipment – we provide all equipment necessary, however you are welcome to use your own if you have it, so you can learn to use your own equipment in safety.

When one pitch just isn’t enough, multi-pitch climbing unlocks new climbing potential and endless terrain. For those who want to go further, multi-pitch is a true climbing journey that will extend your skills and climbing repertoire.
When multi-pitch climbing you are climbing the longest climbs, giving that feeling of being miles above the ground and incredible views to match.
On our guided multi-pitch experience, your guide will lead you up through the pitches allowing you climb multiple rope lengths up for the feeling of maximum exposure. At the top, your hard work is rewarded with incredible vistas below and a massive free-hanging abseil down. With stunning scenery, this is a must do experience for climbers who are competent seconding.
We have small guide to client ratios 1:2 max.
On the half day trip you will climb the iconic Little Big Wall – one of Wanaka’s best known multi-pitch climbs. ‘Turn on, Tune in, Drop out’, Grade 16 (5.8/5a), is an adventurous climb with incredible views and varied pitches.
The full day trip will see you begin with a climb of Little Big Wall. Then, after lunch, you can either climb it again, this time leading the pitches and making safe changeovers under the watchful eye of your guide, or explore some of the other multi-pitch climbs nearby.
We also run a Multi-Pitch Course where you can learn the skills required to multi-pitch safely. Learn about anchors, top belaying and self-protected abseiling, with the option of learning some basic rescue techniques that multi-pitch climbers may one day need to know (although we all hope never to use them!)

Ever wondered about climbing where there are no bolts? The answer is Trad Climbing.
This involves placing equipment (protection) into cracks and holes in the rock while you climb, the 2nd climber then removes the equipment as they follow the same route up the rock face.
Although each of our courses are tailored to the participants, a certain level of rock climbing experience is required before attending this course. Covering placing and removing equipment, such as camming devices and wires or nuts; how to extend runners; and the process of belay from the top, including setting up anchors. Wanaka is known as a sport climbing (climbing on bolts) destination – this results in the climbs that are left as trad climbs being great climbs with easy to place protection on them.
